The Prodigal Son of Memphis is back and more groundbreaking than ever.
Jai Musiq, after the success of his fantastic 8-month run leading up to his Sap Junt release in October 2018, finally releases visuals (as directed fantasically by @B_Nodd) to his lyrically cohesive “I Might Need Security” cover as originally performed by Chance the Rapper. Jai previously released this fiery cover with the PROJECT IS DONE EP this past Summer 2018 and whiplashes with a heat his fans and naysayers may have put in the back of their minds-until now. This whiplash is accompanied by sharp visual transitions, crisp quality and down
-to-earth-Memphis scenes that showcase his team and his roots. Evidently, the family has “security” with the firm game Jai Musiq is laying down bar for bar.
The video is yet another verification of Jai Musiq’s undying commitment to be real to his roots, standards of quality in every part of his artistry, and merciless attacks on the game as seen in real time.
Pay who you have to pay off for quality’s sake. Spend more time in the studio if necessary to perfect sound quality. Take time to craft the bars as sharp as a wordsmith for better lyrical quality. It is these investments of time and meticulous crafting in all parts of one’s entire artistry that stands the test of time, not just for their time in the game, but for the artist themselves as they look back to see where the seeds were planted in their path to abundant fruits of labour reaped for the world to enjoy.
Jai Musiq becomes the indie artist where you have to stop whatever you’re doing and catch a drop from them-regardless of what he drops and what you’re doing at the time. On a business trip to Baltimore I linked up with a musical ethnocologist colleague from Miami who stopped what she was doing to watch and marvel at the video herself, praising the quality and the storytelling of lyricism.
Keep up with Jai Musiq on his social medias and watch for his continued meteoric rise in 2019.
