In an exclusive to The Demo Tape, rising Memphis artist and regional act Jai Musiq refuses to let up from his tours, freestyles, and brand development with a short, but undeniably fire of a project called Project is Done EP with three tracks showing that he has not reached his final form but can still go toe to toe with the best of his breathing competition no matter their rank.
With two singles this year, one on Valentine’s Day this year and another to kick off this summer, Jai Musiq delivers a flawless and master level blend of Southern steez, flow and sultry vocals that compliment his style and the greatest selection of beats. Making the best moves possible as an underground artist, Jai Musiq delivered more of a musical onslaught this summer than whatever could have been imagined.
“Respect” feat. Cash Keldry finds the Memphis pair delivering a banger rap track this time instead of a baecation theme, displaying their versatility and ability to not be trifled with on whatever type of genre they tackle together.
After those initial tracks, it became apparent that Jai Musiq delivered the lyrical southern rap/ultimate vibe of an EP that Childhish Gambino should have came with on his Summer Pack EP but that’s a discussion for another time. With the last two tracks especially, Jai Musiq shows why individuals should pay close attention to their local artists just as much as their favorite national artists. “Hot Summer Remix” sounds reminiscent of a Luke Cage interlude with an excellent Southern crank and a candid tale about Jai’s childhood trauma, struggles, and coming of age Memphis story. “I Might Need Security” is a track you have to run back to catch the lyrical brillance from the young Memphis prodigy.
If you are still sleeping on the Memphis artist, you better wake up before you complain later about not being warned of the forthcoming inferno that is his artistry.
