Solo: A Star Wars Story might be the most “Star War-sy” Star Wars adventure that we might get ever in our generation. We must divorce from the canonical bias that the classics are untouchable and that they cannot be surpassed. No progress or evolution can occur if classics cannot be surpassed.
This is not to be hyperbole, but Solo: A Star Wars Story captured all that we love about Star Wars films except the light-sabers(save the ending). From the very beginning, the film was an adrenaline rush showing the young hot shot that we knew in the original trilogy as played by Harrison Ford. Alden Ehrenreich portrayed Han Solo in all of his cockiness, cleverness, resourcefulness, tenacity, balance, ambition and lust for adventure in an exhilarating tale. We were able to see Han Solo’s first big scores, his budding relationship with Lando Calrissian (as played magnificently by Donald Glover), and how he obtained the iconic Millennium Falcon spaceship with Chewbacca.
In this film, we have a lot of Easter Eggs including a past Sith that would make you would think about references to events of the old trilogy. In terms of revenue, Solo: A Star Wars Story flopped but that was due to a multitude of reasons not attributing to the acting or great contributions that the film added to the universe.
Solo: A Star Wars Story was an amazing step from Rogue One and gave a relevant backstory to one of Star Wars’ most beloved characters in the most flattering and adventurous way possible.
Go see Solo: A Star Wars Story today, as it premieres ahead of Star Wars Episode IX.
