The 2nd Annual Tapey Awards

#TheTapeys is back for Year 2

It’s about that time of the year again for The Demo Tape’s 2nd Annual Tapey Awards. The Demo Tape features music from all over the world, but this in particular is just for our hometown. Most of the TDT writers were born, raised, and live in the city of Baltimore. We call it home because it’s all we’ve known all our lives. With that being said, we strive to pay homage and respect to the arts of the city each year with our Tapey Awards. Building off the success of last year’s awards, we hope this year is bigger and better.

What’s New?

One of the focuses this year is to increase the fan involvement in the awards. So, in addition to bringing back the fan vote, The Tapeys will be live at a venue to be announced at a later date. That’s right – our panel of judges will be making our decisions on the awards live in front of an audience. Those in attendance will be able to vote on the spot for their favorite songs, projects, producers, and more.

Those who aren’t able to make it to the awards will also be able to vote, because this year’s Tapeys will be streamed live as well.

We’ve also added several new categories, such as “Best Artist + Producer Duo,” “Best Remix,” and “general field” awards for “Album of the Year,” “Song of the Year,” and “Best New Artist”

How’s the voting work?

The voting works on a point system determined by our panel of judges and the fans. The breakdown is as follows:

The max number of points each nominee can receive is 50

The Judges: Our six judges will each determine their “top 3” in each category before The Tapeys is broadcasted and determined live. This pool will then become the nominees in each category. They will then have a scale of 0-8 to grade each nominee with. The max score each nominee can receive from each judge is 8, and the max score each nominee can receive from the all of the judges overall is 48.

The Fans: The fans will help primarily with deciding close voting, as they account for 4 percent of the total vote. The fans will be able to cast a singular vote for their favorite nominee in each category. The nominee with the most fan votes will be awarded 100 percent of the fan points (2) for the respective category.
